Obama signs into law privacy protections for European citizens

Obama signs into law privacy protections for European citizens
US President Barack Obama has signed a measure into law on Wednesday that extends US privacy protections to European citizens and allows them to take legal action in US courts.
Obama praised the law for ensuring “that everybody’s data is protected in the strongest possible way with our privacy laws not only American citizens, but also foreign citizens.”
The Judicial Redress Act extends protections under US privacy law to allow citizens of certain countries as designated by the government to correct information in their records and take action in US courts if the US government unlawfully discloses their personal information.

It was touted by its sponsors as a way to ensure strong trans-Atlantic relations and provide European citizens similar rights to those granted US citizens in European courts.
The measure was considered key to an agreement reached this month between the European Union and the United States on a new system to protect trans-Atlantic data transfers.

The agreement had to be hammered out after the EU’s top court struck down the Safe Harbour system, which had since 2000 regulated how businesses in the EU and the US share data.
The court found that the deal did not fully safeguard the rights of EU citizens, leaving businesses on both sides of the Atlantic in legal limbo.

Currency now sold at N250/1$

Naira has appreciated against dollar by 50%, currently sold at N250/1S

Naira Currency

Naira which has been on a free fall for some weeks now has impressively appreciated against dollar by 50% from N395/1$ as of close of work on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 to N250/1$ as of early hours of Thursday, February 25, 2016.

According to The Leadership, street hawkers and Bureau de Change (BDC) operators in Abuja sold greenback (Dollar) between N250 and N255.

Ibrahim, an operator stated that due to the continuous Naira instability, he was scared to buy dollars so as not to lose further.

Earlier this morning, I bought dollars for N305, but now it is sold at N250, making me to lose N55 in less than 10 hours. I am very scared of buying dollars because of the continued instability.
Although I am happy that the naira continued to gain strength at the parallel market as an overflow of dollars chased the local currency but we are losing greatly here.
Because the Naira is most likely to appreciate further, most dealers are rushing to sell dollars off so as not to be in loss.

Why we forced UNN students to pay N70,000 for laptops – Vice-Chancellor.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, Professor Benjamin Chukwuma Ozulumba has explained that the institution was not out to extort money from students when it insisted that new students must acquire laptop computers from the school authority at a price of N70,000.
There were series of protests in the institution late last year over the policy of compulsory purchase of laptop, with allegations that the Vice Chancellor and his management team initiated the idea as a means of ripping off students.
But addressing the issues during one of the activities to mark UNN’s recent convocation ceremony, Ozulumba said the decision was one of the best initiatives introduced by his administration to improve on the quality of students by becoming Information Communication Technology, ICT, compliant from the beginning of their studies.
He maintained that the N70,000 which the students were compelled to pay for the computer is equivalent to a giveaway price when compare to the fact that students at private universities compulsorily pay up to N110,000 to own similar laptop.
The Vice-Chancellor pointed out that the unique idea has enabled most of the students to have access to the internet on their own, instead of patronising commercial cyber cafes, which cost a lot of money.
Ozulumba added that the company from which the laptop systems were purchased has opened up servicing centres within UNN campus to fix whatever faults the gadgets may develop.

HIV, Cancer Risks of oral sex you must know

oral sex

It is usually assumed that one does not need to worry about protection when it comes to oral sex. This is due to the belief that it is unlikely for someone to contact a Sexually Transmitted Disease, STD since genitals are not actually in contact with each other.
Sadly, this is a wrong assumption. Oral sex without protection pose the following risks.
HIV: HIV virus can be transmitted through bodily fluids like semen and saliva. However, the risk of transmission from exposure to saliva is comparatively less than that of semen. But this doesn’t mean that oral sex with people infected with HIV is safe as there are numerous factors that might put you at risk. These include allergy, ejaculation in the mouth, immune suppression, sores and inflammation. Moreover, when the frequency of sex and the number of partners is high, the cumulative risk if much higher than indulging in a penetrative sex.
STD: Not many people are aware that oral sex can act as an as a mode of transmission of various oral, respiratory and genital pathogens. The common sexually transmitted infections apart from HIV include herpes, gonorrhea, chlamydia, hepatitis, syphilis, genital warts (HPV) and intestinal parasites. If you suffer from any oral health problems like bleeding gums, cuts in your mouth, sores or broken skin, the chances of infection increases severely. The herpes simplex virus causes sores or lesions in mouth and genitals, which can lead to skin-to-skin contact leading to virus transmission during oral sex. In the case of chlamydia, gonorrhoea, hepatitis and syphilis, the virus or bacteria can be passed through blood, when you come in contact with body fluids during the act.

Cancer:  A study published online in ‘JAMA Oncology’ revealed that oral sex can increase your risk of head and neck cancer by seven times. It showed a strong correlation between HPV-16 (human pappiloma virus-16), a type of HPV virus that causes cervical cancer and other sexually transmitted infections, with increased risk of cancer development. So if you are infected with HPV, it is wise not to indulge in oral sex as you might be at the receiving end.

How it's done:
He kneels and straddles her left leg while she is lying on her left side. She will bend her right leg around the right side of his waist, which will give him access to enter her..
Why it's hot
This gives her all the sexy benefits of doggy style, like deep penetration while she lounges, taking in all the pleasure. To make this hotter, he can try manually stimulating her using his fingers. Or he can withdraw his penis and, holding the shaft with his left hand, rub the head against her clitoris to bring her to the brink of orgasm then he can reinsert when she wants him inside her.

75-year-old pensioner slumps, dies during screening in Edo

Top: The late pensioner

There was outrage on Tuesday by pensioners of the Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State after a local government pensioner, identified as Sunday Oboite, slumped and died during screening.
It was learnt that Oboite, 75, died at the reception of the local government secretariat.
It was gathered that the late pensioner, who retired from the Works department of the council, was at the secretariat for screening which the council had directed the pensioners to undertake before they would be paid their 10-month pension arrears.
He was said to have been offered a bottle of beverage and some water by a Good Samaritan after he complained of hunger.
He, however, slumped at about 1.20pm, before he was confirmed dead by some doctors at the council.
According to a source, his death sparked a protest among other pensioners, who were enraged by what had befallen their colleague.
The source said, “Some of them complained that they had presented themselves for screening at the secretariat at about 8am, but were later informed to go to Urhokpota Hall, about 100 metres away. They also decried the delay in the exercise, which took hours before it commenced.”
The Chairman of the council, Mrs. Sweet Ikpomwosa, could not be reached for comments.
The Secretary of Oredo Pensioners Association, Mr. James Erhunmense, said that the late Oboite had arrived at the venue of the exercise alone and complained of not having any money to buy food and drugs.
He also said that the late pensioner was unable to go to the designated hall with his colleagues but chose to wait at the reception due to tiredness.
Another pensioner, James Omorogbe, said the computers used for the screening were always shutting down, adding that it took the death of their colleague for the council to provide them with chairs.
He said the death of Oboite could have been avoided if the council officials had prepared for the screening.
“Sunday said he had no money to buy food and drugs. For 10 months now, we have not been paid. Many others have died without collecting their benefits,” Omorogbe added.

Mild female genital mutilation should be legalised – Gynecologists

Genital mutilation

Two United States gynecologists, writing in the Journal of Medical Ethics have said that mild female genital mutilation should be made legal.
They argued that permitting more minimal procedures would allow families to uphold cultural and religious traditions while protecting girls from more dangerous forms of cutting.
According to CBC news, communities which support FGM often consider it a prerequisite for marriage. Many also see it as a religious obligation, although it is not mentioned in the Qur’an or Bible.
Gynecologists Kavita Shah Arora and Allan Jacobs said procedures that slightly changed the look of a girl’s genitalia without damaging them were comparable to male circumcision or cosmetic procedures in Western countries like labiaplasty.
As written in the in the specialist publication by the  British Medical Journal, the women said laws against mild modifications were “culturally insensitive and supremacist and discriminatory towards women.”
Female genital cutting and female circumcision, is the ritual removal of some or all of the external female genitalia. Typically carried out by a traditionalist using a blade, with or without anaesthesia.
FGM is concentrated in 27 African countries, Indonesia, Yemen and Iraqi Kurdistan, and found elsewhere in Asia, the Middle East and among diaspora communities around the world. It is conducted from days after birth to puberty and beyond. In half the countries for which national figures are available, most girls are cut before the age of five.
The procedures differ according to the ethnic group. They include removal of the clitoral hood and clitoral glans, removal of the inner labia, and in the most severe form (known as infibulation) removal of the inner and outer labia and closure of the vulva. In this last procedure, a small hole is left for the passage of urine and menstrual fluid; the vagina is opened for intercourse and opened further for childbirth.

US election 2016: Carson says Obama was 'raised white'

Ben Carson in Reno, Nevada. Photo: 21 February 2016
Barack Obama was "raised white", Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson has claimed.
Mr Carson said the president could not understand the African-American experience the way he could.
Mr Obama was born to a white American mother and a black Kenyan father. Mr Carson's parents are African-American.
The comments by Mr Carson - a retired neurosurgeon who finished last in South Carolina's primary - were criticised as "loose talk" by another Republican.
"He's an 'African' American. He was, you know, raised white," Mr Carson told a Politico podcast on Tuesday.
"Many of his formative years were spent in Indonesia. So, for him to, you know, claim that, you know, he identifies with the experience of black Americans, I think, is a bit of a stretch."

Mr Carson, who at one point was pushing businessman Donald Trump near the top of the polls, said he was proud "we broke the colour barrier" when Mr Obama became the first black president in 2008.
"But I also recognise that his experience and my experience are night-and-day different. He didn't grow up like I grew up by any stretch of the imagination," he said.
The 64-year-old had a poor upbringing in Detroit but made it to Yale before a brilliant career as a neurosurgeon.
But he has been struggling in the Republican nomination race and finished sixth out of six in South Carolina at the weekend.

On the Carson campaign trail - BBC's Anthony Zurcher, Las Vegas

While Mr Trump's nearby rally drew a who's who of the national press corp, Mr Carson's event was largely ignored.
The Secret Service still stands watch over the proceedings, but the screening of elderly retirees with their walkers and artificial hips seemed a bit absurd.
After the event, however, many of the attendees said the retired neurosurgeon had won their support.
"I thought his speech was inspiring, logical and it made sense," said Marty Glazman. "He had a thought-out plan. I came in with an open mind, but I can honestly say I'm now a supporter."
Carson's campaign grinds on

Mr Obama has not publicly responded to Mr Carson's comments.
But Republican Congressman Darrell Issa, who backs Senator Marco Rubio in the Republican race, criticised Mr Carson.
"This is the reason that political loose talk by people who are just beginning to do it is always a problem in real statesmanship," Mr Issa told CNN.
"The fact is that Dr Carson is not really ready to represent America around the world," he added.
