Paris Jackson
is all grown up and almost unrecognisable from that shy, brown haired
11-year-old we were introduced to at Michael Jackson's memorial ceremony
in 2009.
Since her late father’s death the 17-year-old aspiring
singer has refused to celebrate her birthday as she couldn’t face the
heartbreaking memories that came with it, but as this year she turns 18
she decided to mark the day by getting a tattoo in tribute to her dad.
The tattoo features the words 'Queen of My Heart' in Michael's handwriting on her wrist.

captioned: ‘To everyone else he was the King of Pop. To me, well, he was
the king of my heart.’
Her tattoo artist Justin Lewis also shared a picture of himself with Paris and her cousin Austin Brown.
The president
of Ukraine has become the latest prominent politician to deny wrongdoing
after his name was linked to secretive offshore accounts arranged by a
Panama law firm.
The revelations have raised suspicion that such
offshore entities were set up to avoid taxes, but Petro Poroshenko
denied that was the purpose in his case. Rather, he said, it was
necessary to create an offshore holding company to put his sweet
business in a blind trust when he became president of Ukraine in 2014.
"This
is absolutely normal procedure, and I think this is the main difference
from the naming of all the political figures in this Panama list," Mr
Poroshenko said in Tokyo, where he was meeting with Japan's prime
minister Shinzo Abe and business leaders.
"If
we have anything to be investigated, I am happy to do that," he said.
"But, this is absolutely transparent from the very beginning. No hidden
account, no associated management, no nothing."

Reports,
based on a trove of confidential documents from Panama-based law firm
Mossack Fonseca, have purported to expose the offshore arrangements of
public officials, businesspeople and celebrities around the world.
Iceland's
prime minister became the first casualty of the affair Tuesday,
stepping down two days after a video was aired showing him breaking off a
television interview over questions about his family's offshore
dealings.
Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson had faced opposition calls
to resign over revelations he had used a shell company to shelter large
sums while Iceland's economy was in crisis.
The
so-called Panama Papers reports, which were coordinated by the
Washington-based International Consortium of Investigative Journalists,
have implicated a diverse range of figures, including Bollywood actor
Amitabh Bachchan.
Bachchan denied any connection to four shipping
companies registered in tax havens following reports by The Indian
Express newspaper. "It is possible that my name has been misused,"
Bachhan tweeted late on Tuesday.
"I have paid all my taxes
including on monies spent by me overseas," he said. "Monies that I have
remitted overseas have been in compliance with law, including
remittances through LRS (Liberalised Remittance Scheme) after paying
Indian taxes. In any event the news report in the Indian Express doesn't
even suggest any illegality on my part."
A jealous
husband told jurors in England he cut off the head of his wife of 30
years and flushed it down the toilet because she "betrayed" him by
having affairs with other men.
Crane driver Dempsey Nibbs, 69, is
on trial at the Old Bailey accused of murdering bubbly and vivacious
meals on wheels worker Judith Nibbs, 60, at their flat in Hoxton, east
London, in April 2014.
The prosecution say medical evidence
indicates that Mrs Nibbs was probably unconscious when Nibbs decapitated
her before smashing her skull into pieces and disposing of them in an
"unspeakable" act of violence.
But Nibbs told jurors that he never
meant to kill her when he went into the living room to confront her
about "proof" of her infidelity in the form of a bank statement showing a
transfer of money to a male friend of hers.
He said he intended
to "slap her around a bit" but she died in the struggle as he hit her on
the head with a metal bar he was trying to force into her mouth.
Despite not checking her pulse or breathing, he assumed she was dead as her eyes were "rolled over in her head", he said.
Cross
examining, Crispin Aylett QC said: "Bearing in mind you spent a large
amount of your life with this woman, the mother of your two children,
with whom you spent many happy years, how do you feel?"
Nibbs said: "I feel terrible. Still, she let me down."
Mr Aylett went on: "Realising she was dead you were very angry with her? And so angry you did unspeakable things to her head."
The defendant said: "I felt that was me finished. I'm dead as well. She betrayed me. I'm dead anyway."
Nibbs dismissed a doctor's evidence that Mrs Nibbs had been alive at the time, saying: "That's his opinion."
Mr
Aylett said: "I'm going to suggest from the time you decided to
confront Judith, the time you went into the living room where she was
minding her own business on the phone to her friend, you were intent on
killing her.
"In the end you chopped her head off and smashed it up and flushed it down the lavatory because you felt she betrayed you."
Nibbs
replied: "She did betray me. When she died that was me finished. Me,
myself I'm dead because I did not see a way out for me. I cut her head
off because I'm finished, I'm dead.
"I feel terrible about the whole incident because she died. I'm a 69-year-old man. What did I get myself into this fix for?"
Mr
Aylett pressed: "Are you thinking about yourself or what you did to
Judith? What about Judith herself, 60 years old, vibrant?"
Nibbs said: "She was going to leave me anyway, so what can I say?"
The
defendant, of the Charles Estate, in Hoxton, denies murder and
obstructing the coroner from holding an inquest in the violent death of
Judith Nibbs by disposing of her decapitated head. The trial continues.
A 20-year-old
man described as a "brute and a bully" has been jailed for posting
"revenge porn" photos and videos online of a woman to humiliate her.
Hassan
Azam, from Desborough Park Road, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, pleaded
guilty at a hearing at Aylesbury Crown Court to disclosing private
sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress and to
stalking a person causing a fear of violence.
He was sentenced to a total of 28 months' imprisonment and made subject to a restraining order.
Detective
Sergeant Carl Wilson said: "Azam pursued a course of conduct against
the victim which consisted of threats to her and to her family, calls to
the victim, her family and her place of work.
"He
then went on to publish private images and videos of the victim on
social media. The actions of the defendant in this case were designed to
deliberately humiliate the victim.
"When passing sentence, the
judge referred to the defendant as a brute and a bully - something that
is clear from the facts of the case."
The "revenge pornography"
offence took place on October 25 2015 and the stalking offence took
place between December 1 2014 and November 2 2015, and both were
committed in the High Wycombe area.
A final year student of the Technical
College, Ikorodu, Lagos State, Iseoluwa Omomowo, has disappeared while
running an errand for his stepbrother’s wife in the Ebute-Meta area of
Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the
28-year-old Ilaje, Ondo State indigene, had gone to withdraw N8,000 from
a First Bank of Nigeria Automated Teller Machine on Saturday, but he
did not return home.
It was gathered that by Monday, his cell phone had been switched off.
Our correspondent gathered that efforts by the family to locate his whereabouts had been abortive.
His stepbrother, Dr Omoteyinshe Oluwole,
explained that the victim was the family’s last child, adding that he
had been living with him for about five years.
Oluwole, a medical doctor, said he was in Sagamu, Ogun State, when Omomowo went missing.
He said, “He started living with me in
2011. He is a final year student of Electrical Department of the
Technical College, Ikorodu.
“On that Saturday, I sent some money to
my wife’s bank account. My wife asked him to withdraw N8,000 from the
ATM. After withdrawing the money, he was supposed to go to the Lagos
Island to get a pair of trousers from my tailor.
“At exactly 12.28pm, she received an alert on her phone that the money had been withdrawn from the account.
“Around 4pm, my wife called me that she
had yet to see my brother and she was going to the market and needed
somebody to stay with our child. I called him on the telephone, but he
didn’t pick his calls.”
Oluwole said when he called the tailor, he was told that his brother had yet to arrive.
“Around 6pm again, I called the tailor
again, and he said he had not seen my brother. We called his cell phone
repeatedly, but nobody picked the calls.
“At 9pm when he didn’t return home, we
thought he had gone to watch football at a viewing centre. The police
said we could not report until after 24 hours,” he added.
A family friend and lawyer, Ige Asemudara, said the family had gone to different police stations, as well as prayer houses.
He said, “In one of the places we went to, we were told that he was abducted by some people and they would still release him.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP
Dolapo Badmos, said, “The case was reported to us on Sunday. We are
investigating the matter.”
The Peoples Democratic Party has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop blaming the opposition party for his failure.
Rather than accusing the PDP of being
behind the challenges facing the country, the opposition party said the
President should settle down and work.
It said it was wrong for the President to still be blaming the PDP 11 months after he assumed office.
The National Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff, said this at the party’s secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday.
Sheriff, who was a former governor of
Borno State, said the All Progressives Congress claimed to have
solutions to the nation’s problems, saying this was why it was voted
into power by Nigerians instead of the PDP.
He spoke during the inauguration of the four committees set up by the party.
The committees are national convention committee, finance committee, reconciliation committee and zoning committee.
Sheriff was apparently replying to the
claim by the President that the PDP failed to save for the rainy day
throughout the 16 years it ruled the country.
President Buhari spoke while receiving
the President of the International Civil Aviation Organisation, Dr.
Bernard Aliyu, at the State House in Abuja.
He had said, “In the First Republic,
more enduring infrastructure was built with meagre resources. But in the
past 16 years, we made a lot of money without planning for the rainy
day.
“We showed a lot of indiscipline in managing our economy, and that is why we are where we are today.”
Before Buhari spoke, a former Governor
of Lagos State, who is also the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola
Tinubu, in another forum, had also blamed the PDP for the current fuel
crisis in the country.
Tinubu, while addressing journalists in
Lagos, said the PDP destroyed Nigeria during its 16-year rule by
refusing to pursue what was necessary for the growth and development of
the country.
He had said, “We want to stay focused
and redirect Nigeria. We want to reverse the decay of 16 years. We are
hearing comments from the PDP left and right. We are saying we want to
clear the mess they created. For 16 good years, the PDP destroyed the
country.
“We should not be lamenting over petrol
queues today if they had seen what was necessary and done what was
necessary for this country.”
Sheriff, however, said the blame game
should stop and called on the President and the APC to get to work and
deliver on their electoral promises.
Sheriff, who was a member of the APC
before he defected to the PDP, said the result of the 2015 general
elections had afforded Nigerians to know the difference between the two
parties now.
He said, “Nigerians have the opportunity
of comparing the two parties. I read in a publication recently where
the APC was blaming the PDP for the unavailability of petrol in the
country.
“They said we are responsible for petrol scarcity after one year in office. They should stop blaming us.
“They told Nigerians they could do better and that’s why Nigerians voted for them. They should stop blaming us for their woes.
“I like to advise the leaders of the APC
to stop blaming the PDP. We are now the opposition party, we would
reposition our party to show that we can do better.”
He said the days of rigging election in
the country were over, and called on the APC governors to steer clear of
Abuja on Saturday when council elections would hold.
Sheriff said he had been informed that some governors of the APC were planning to storm Abuja.
He said if this happened, then the PDP would also bring its governors to the Federal Capital Territory.
He said, “Governors of the APC should
not be in Abuja for the election. If they think they can rig out the
PDP, they are joking. If they bring governors, we would bring governors.
“If they bring former governors, we would bring our own. We can match them everywhere.
“The APC should be guided. We are not
going to be part of violence. The PDP will not be part of violence, but
we will protect our votes. Winners must be announced. No inconclusive
elections.”
Also speaking at the occasion, the
immediate-past Governor of Niger State, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, called on
members of the PDP to stop correcting Buhari and the APC government.
He said they should be allowed to make mistakes in order to allow Nigerians know the difference between them and the PDP.
The popular messaging service WhatsApp
said Tuesday it had implemented “full end-to-end encryption,” a move
which steps up privacy but may lead to conflicts with law enforcement
agencies.
The Facebook-owned mobile application
with one billion users worldwide made the announcement following weeks
of intense debate over efforts by US authorities to compel Apple to help
break into an encrypted iPhone.
“WhatsApp has always prioritized making
your data and communication as secure as possible,” a blog post
announcing the change said.
“And today, we’re proud to announce that
we’ve completed a technological development that makes WhatsApp a
leader in protecting your private communication: full end-to-end
encryption.”
This means that “when you send a
message, the only person who can read it is the person or group chat
that you send that message to,” the statement said.
“No one can see inside that message. Not cybercriminals. Not hackers. Not oppressive regimes. Not even us.”
Moves by technology firms to implement
the kind of encryption where even the companies themselves don’t have
“keys” to unlock data have unleashed criticism in law enforcement
circles claiming this creates “warrant-proof” spaces for criminals and
others.
The blog post by WhatsApp co-founders Jan Koum and Brian Action said encryption is an important tool for its users.
“We live in a world where more of our data is digitized than ever before,” they wrote.
“Every day we see stories about
sensitive records being improperly accessed or stolen. And if nothing is
done, more of people’s digital information and communication will be
vulnerable to attack in the years to come. Fortunately, end-to-end
encryption protects us from these vulnerabilities.”
WhatsApp is reportedly involved in a
court battle similar to the one involving Apple, which fought a federal
effort to provide assistance in unlocking an iPhone used by one of the
shooters in last year’s San Bernardino killing spree.
Other reports say WhatsApp and another
application called Telegram were used by the perpetrators of the
November 13 Paris attacks that left 130 people dead.
US Congress is expected to consider
legislation which would require technology firms to retain “keys” that
could retrieve data in a criminal investigation, with a court order.
Similar measures are under consideration in Britain and France.
A broad coalition of technology
companies and activists have argued against any encryption rules that
would allow “special access” for law enforcement, claiming these would
be vulnerabilities that could be exploited by hackers or repressive
governments, and threaten security of banking, electronic commerce,
trade secrets and more.
– ‘Victory for human rights’ -Tanya
O’Carroll of Amnesty International welcomed the move, calling it “a
major boost for people’s ability to express themselves and communicate
without fear.”
“This is a huge victory for human
rights, especially for activists and journalists who depend on strong
and trustworthy communications to carry out their work without putting
their lives at greater risk,” she said in a statement.
Koum said in the blog post that the move
was “personal,” noting that “I grew up in the USSR during communist
rule and the fact that people couldn’t speak freely is one of the
reasons my family moved to the United States.”
Facebook in 2014 announced it was acquiring WhatsApp for an eye-popping $19 billion in stock and cash.
Analysts say WhatsApp is especially
popular in some areas of Latin America, Asia and Africa, where it is
used in place of official telecom networks.

Calls
are growing for South African President Jacob Zuma to resign even
though parliament defeated an opposition motion to remove him because of
a spending scandal.
A coalition of church, academic and other
groups is organizing a protest campaign against Zuma, who apologized
after the country’s top court ruled that he violated the constitution in
a scandal over millions of dollars in state spending on his private
home. The alliance says it will discuss its plans later Wednesday.
Prominent
South Africans who say Zuma should resign include Trevor Manuel, a
former finance minister, and Ahmed Kathrada, a former anti-apartheid
activist who was close to Nelson Mandela.

The
prime minister of Iceland resigned on Tuesday after an enormous leak of
documents from a secretive Panamanian law firm about offshore shell
companies and tax shelters.
The
resignation of the prime minister, Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson, was
the first prominent political fallout from the document leaks, which
have shed unflattering light on the private financial activities of many
rich and powerful people around the world.
Mr.
Gunnlaugsson’s resignation was announced on television by Sigurdur Ingi
Johannsson, a government minister and the deputy chairman of his
Progressive Party, and it was confirmed by the state broadcaster, RUV.

David Gunnlaugsson of Iceland was surrounded by members of the news
media as he left a meeting with President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson in
Reykjavik on Tuesday.Credit

Mr. Gunnlaugsson had insisted on staying in office
after the leaked documents revealed that he and his wealthy partner,
now his wife, had set up a company in 2007 in the British Virgin Islands
through the law firm, Mossack Fonseca. The documents also suggested
that he sold his half of the company to her for $1, on the last day of
2009, just before the implementation of a new law that would have
required him as a member of Parliament to declare his ownership as a
conflict of interest.
Mr.
Gunnlaugsson had said that the leak contained no news, adding that he
and his wife, Anna Sigurlaug Palsdottir, had not hidden their assets or
avoided paying taxes.
But the company, Wintris Inc., lost millions of dollars as a result of the 2008 financial crash, which crippled Iceland,
and the company is claiming about $4.2 million from three failed
Icelandic banks. As prime minister since 2013, Mr. Gunnlaugsson was
involved in reaching a deal for the banks’ claimants, so he is now being
accused of a conflict of interest.
When
asked by Swedish and Icelandic television journalists about Wintris
before the publication of the leaks, Mr. Gunnlaugsson stormed out,
saying that the journalists had obtained the interview “under false
pretenses.” He and his wife then issued statements about “journalist
encroachment” in their private lives and said they had done nothing
wrong.
Napoli forward Gonzalo Higuain has been handed a four-game ban for his red card in his side’s defeat to Udinese at the weekend.
The
Argentina international, who has scored 30 goals in 31 Serie A
appearances this season, was sent off by referee Massimiliano Irrati for
a second bookable offence.
The 28-year-old then pushed the referee and had to be held back and led away from the field by his teammates and Napoli staff.
The
two yellow cards carried an automatic one-game suspension while the
Lega Serie A has added an additional three games due to his conduct
before and while leaving the field.
“In addition [to the one-game
ban for two yellow cards], in the moment of being sent off in the 31st
minute of the second half, he [Higuain] made an offensive remark to the
referee and made a disrespectful gesture towards him, facing up to him
and placing both of his hands on his chest; for having, finally, assumed
an aggressive attitude towards an opponent, while being held back by
his own teammates,” read a Lega Serie A disciplinary statement.
As
a result, Higuian misses the Azzurri’s games against Hellas Verona,
Inter Milan, Bologna and also the potentially decisive trip to Roma on
April 25. He has also been fined €20,000.
Napoli are expected to appeal the decision which has already been criticised.
Former
Juve defender Alessio Tacchinardi said it was wrong to punish Higuain
so severely, saying he had done no worse than Juve defender Leonardo
Bonucci, who confronted referee Nicola Rizzoli during the Turin derby.
Bonucci, however, did not receive more than a one-game ban for the
yellow card he received and which took him to five for the season and
carried an automatic suspension.
“I may have played for Juve, but I think I am objective and the Napoli fans are right about certain things,” he told RAI radio.
“Two
weeks ago, Bonucci — and [Napoli coach Maurizio] Sarri is spot on about
this — cannot be allowed to get away with putting his head against the
referee’s.
“Just like Higuain cannot be allowed to put his hands
on the referee, Bonucci should also have been sent off and both should
be judged equally. I like to see these battles on the field, but I don’t
like it when I see certain differences in evaluation.”
Higuain’s
brother, Nicolas, joined Tacchinardi in condemning the Lega Serie A’s
decision. “If the rules are the same for everybody, then Gonzalo should
only get a one-match ban,” he told Radio CRC.
“A few days ago, there was a Juventus player who swore at the referee and he got away without any punishment.
“[Gonzalo]
was annoyed and disappointed. He’d never seen anything like it before —
getting two penalties given against them in ten minutes, the second of
which was a dubious one.”
Napoli have a four-point advantage over
Roma in the battle for second place and an automatic berth in the group
stage of the Champions League next season. The side finishing third will
enter into the play-off round of the Champions League, with only one
Italian club — AC Milan in 2013 — successfully passing that stage in the
past six seasons.
Napoli were beaten by Athletic Bilbao in the
2014 playoff while Udinese were beaten by Arsenal and Sporting Braga in
consecutive seasons after Sampdoria lost to Werder Bremen at that stage
in 2010. Lazio lost out to Bayer Leverkusen last summer, having finished
third last season.
Napoli coach Sarri has also been handed a
one-game touchline ban after being sent into the stands in the 27th
minute of Sunday’s game after “repeating insulting remarks” to the
refereeing team.
Controversial
Nollywood actress, Caroline Danjuma, has openly addressed the stories
making the rounds concerning her husband’s alleged extra-marital affairs
and how she feels about it.Caroline is a mother of three and married to her billionaire husband, Musa Danjuma.
On
her Instagram page @carolynahutchings, the actress admitted knowing
about the going on in her marriage, and that people should stop tagging
her with ‘incriminating pictures’ and ”messages”.
“Now, I am going to address this one time and that is it.
“I got married to a man who was legally divorced for 4 years (fact).
“I didn’t know who his family was as I wasn’t that sort of girl that read the newspaper.
“Age was nothing but a number to me and yes I truly was in love (it was my choice).
“Ever
since I got married it has been one story or the other and I have been
extremely quiet and tolerant irrespective of the negative reputation it
brought to my name (the price I had to pay).
“I never expected a perfect man and I for one knew that all men cheat (in the real world) but there are limits to everything.
“I took a lot because I believe when you truly love someone you should love their flaws first before their beautiful side.
“I
truly love my husband, he added so much value to my life. Nothing in
life comes easy sometimes we go through fire and storms to mould us into
what God has truly destined us to be.
“One would think I lost a
lot but no I gained more, marriage they say is the best institution of
life and certainly I could rate mine as Harvard of marriage.
“Every
single storm I went through only made me see strength in me I never
knew I had. It thought me to forgive before being hurt, to love
unconditionally, to accept one’s flaws knowing I ain’t perfect either,
to be patient, hardworking, prudent and extremely prayerful.
“It certainly made me see the beautiful side of me and made me work on my bad sides.
“Marriage
is not about changing the other; it’s about finding yourself and
working on your own flaws. Only once have I confronted a mistress and
this is because she sent people to threaten me and kept calling my phone
late at night telling me to stay away from my own husband.
“Well I
have fought a good fight to sustain my home and I know I gave it my
best shot, even though it is not in my nature to give up but sometimes
you just have to let go and pray for the best.
“Everyone in life
is fighting a demon some are lucky enough to have the grace to resist
it. This is my family and I will never condemn him.
“While you throw stones at him and call him names make sure you have no skeletons in your cupboard.
“No one has the right to judge.
“My purpose in life is to continuously be a better person.
“Women
slide through my DM sending me pictures and messages of their intimate
trips; I read a lot and see a lot. I have chosen my battles carefully
and one of them is not monitoring a man old enough to know what to do.
“The
question is I see beyond what you all see, I see a man who takes good
care of our kids, a man who has supported me financially, yes he might
not be the best husband but I appreciate him in every way.
“No one
ever gets a complete man. We might not be compatible as husband and
wife but I am blessed to have him in my life. I am not that sort of a
woman who condemns and forgets the little good deed another does.
“Everything counts to me, so enough of bashing the father of my kids.
“Enough
of calling him names because you are opportuned to see him in odd
places, enough of the pictures. Only God has the right to judge .
“My kids’ sanity are my priority and I will do whatever it takes to
give them a good upbringing. I am not a tree I know when to move till
then stop being a spy no one needs it.
“You don’t need to bring
out pictures and tag me, you don’t need to slide through my DM . I can
handle my biz myself, thank you,” the actress stated.

well as exports to the country of jet fuel and other oil products used
to make rocket fuel, a move in line with new United Nations sanctions on
Pyongyang.
The Security Council unanimously passed a resolution in early March
expanding U.N. sanctions aimed at starving North Korea of funds for its
nuclear and ballistic missile programs after Pyongyang conducted a
fourth nuclear test in January and launched a long-range rocket in
February.
The mining sector is a key part of North Korea’s economy, which is
already largely cut off from the rest of the world. Experts believe
revenue from the sector helps underwrite North Korea’s military
expenditures.
The ministry said it would also ban coal shipments from North Korea,
although it made exemptions consistent with sanctions, including uses
intended for “the people’s well-being” and not connected to nuclear or
missile programs.
North Korea delivered around 20 million tonnes of coal to China last
year, up 27 percent on the year, overtaking Russia and Mongolia to
become China’s third biggest supplier, behind Australia and Indonesia.
An exception was made for coal originating in third countries and
supplied via North Korea’s port of Rason. Landlocked Mongolia, looking
for alternative supply routes for its commodities, has already signed an
agreement with the port that gave its exporters preferential treatment.
Export bans on jet and rocket fuel included exemptions for “basic
humanitarian needs” in conjunction with inspections, and for civilian
passenger jets flying outside of North Korea.
Other restricted minerals include vanadium and titanium, both used in steel alloys.
Independent experts have frequently questioned China’s resolve to
enforce sanctions against North Korea, whose economy is heavily
dependent on its neighbor. China has said it will enforce the measures
“conscientiously”.
U.S. State Department officials have expressed optimism the sanctions
will be more effective than earlier attempts to curtail North Korea’s
nuclear program, pointing to China’s apparent willingness to support
them.
China disapproves of North Korea’s nuclear program, although, as its
sole major ally, it has supplied large quantities of aid off the books
for decades.

The family of Lionel Messi denied on Monday that he was involved in
tax evasion after the Barcelona star emerged as one of many
personalities accused of shady offshore dealings in the Panama Papers
scandal.
“The Messi family wants to make clear that Lionel Messi has not
carried out any of the acts attributed to him, and accusations he
created a… tax evasion plot, including a network of money-laundering,
are false and insulting,” it said in a statement.
The scandal erupted on Sunday when media groups made public a
year-long worldwide investigation into a trove of 11.5 million documents
leaked from a Panama-based law firm that exposed a tangle of offshore
financial dealings by the elite.
Among the accused are close associates of Russian President Vladimir
Putin, relatives of Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Iceland’s Prime Minister
Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson as well as sports celebrities and screen
stars.
Messi and his father are named as owners of a Panama company that had
not previously been disclosed during a Spanish probe into their tax
affairs.
“The Panama company to which they refer to is a totally inactive
company that never had any funds or any open current accounts,” the
Messi family said.
They added that the firm was created by the family’s former tax
advisers and that everything had since been brought into line where
Messi’s fiscal situation was concerned.
After
Roman Reigns won the WWE championship last night at Wrestlemania 32,
WWE boss Vince McMahon should have torn up Reigns’ contract and given
him a new one. McMahon should double the new champs salary–give him a $2
million raise.
Before you get bent out of shape because you are one of the many who feel Reigns isn’t worthy of the title or don’t like the wrestler, consider:
1. Despite many people predicting that the despised Reigns would win the crown last night, Wrestlemania 32 set a new attendance record with 101,763 fans showing up last night at AT&T T +0.79%
Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The previous record was almost 30 years ago
at Wrestlemania 3 in 1987 when 93,173 witnessed superstar Hulk Hogan
body slam Andre the Giant at Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan.
2. Reigns earned an estimated $2.1 million last year,
$700,000 less than Triple H, whom he defeated for the title, and almost
$4 million less than Brock Lesnar, the former WWE and UFC heavyweight
champion who is past him prime.
3. Reigns is a rising social media star. Today he is nipping on the heels of Randy Orton on Facebook. In fact, Reigns is fifth social media, if you don’t count The Rock. A few months ago, Reigns wasn’t even among WWE’s top seven in social media popularity. Social media is crucial for WWE as it tries to get a younger demographic and is increasingly banking on its streaming WWE Network for content delivery.
So the new champ definitely deserves some bonus money.
Nigeria’s forex reserves rose by 40 million dollars in March on a 30-day moving average basis to 27.9 billion dollars.
This is on the back of oil price climb to 40 dollars a barrel.
In an analyst note released on Tuesday by the investment bank FBN
Quest, the modest increase in the reserves was also attributed to the
government’s plugging of leakages in revenue and finances.
During the month under review, Central Bank’s foreign currency sales
remain unchanged at 200 million per week to commercial banks while
importers were also surveyed to have cut back on orders, adopting a
realistic position on forex supply at the Central Bank.
