Pres. Trump Defends Travel Ban: 'Courts Seem to Be So Political'
President Donald Trump defended his executive order temporarily banning travel from seven predominantly Muslim nations.
In a speech to law enforcement groups in Washington this morning, Trump said he's seen "disgraceful" things on TV about the policy, arguing that the order was "written beautifully."
Trump read the federal law which states that the president "may by proclamation, and for such period as he may deem necessary ... suspend the entry of all aliens."
He said even a "bad high school student" would understand that he has the authority to restrict travel from certain nations in the interest of national security.
His remarks came after the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments Tuesday following a federal judge's broad ruling against the ban.
Trump said he listened to the arguments and the judge's statements and could not believe what they were saying about the order.
"I don't ever want to call a court biased. I won't call it biased. We haven't had a decision yet. But courts seem to be so political," said Trump.
