Tragedy
yesterday struck the community of Onyikwa Alike in Ikwo local council
of Ebonyi State as one Onuigbo Nwankwoeke was allegedly killed by his
kinsman, Michael Ochaya, while trying to recover N100 debt owed him by
the suspect.
Nwankwoeke, aged 50, met his untimely death at Michael’s house, when he went to ask for his N100.
Confirming
the incident, the Ebonyi State police command Public Relations Officer,
ASP George Okafor, said the brother to the deceased, Nwabueze Nwedu,
reported the incident to the police and investigation has commenced in
earnest.
“Nwankwoeke
went to his kinsman’s house to demand for his money but instead of
recovering the money, he was killed in the process. We were told when
the late Nwankwoeke got to Ochaya’s house and demanded for his money,
Ochaya’s wife gave the deceased the money but instead of thanking his
wife for bailing him out, he forcefully collected the money from the
deceased and tore it into shreds. In the process, a scuffle ensued,
which led to the death of Michael,” he narrated.
Okafor
added that what killed Nwankwoneke was a heavy blow that Ochaya landed
on his chest, which brought the deceased down he gave up the ghost.
His corpse has since been deposited at Onueke General Hospital for autopsy.
