NYSC: Corp members to get free accommodation in Jigawa

The Jigawa State government has promised to construct lodges for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in each of the 27 local government areas of the State in 2017.
Head of the State Civil Service (HoS), Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa, made the disclosure on Thursday after meeting with the executives of the state chapter of the Muslim Corps members Association of Nigeria (MCAN) in Dutse, the Jigawa capital.
Inuwa disclosed that the lodges would be 10 bedrooms each to be situated in the headquarters of the councils.
The HoS explained that the government decided to build the lodges considering the accommodation challenge faced by NYSC members serving in Jigawa.
He said government had directed the 27 LGAs to make budgetary provision for the project in their 2017 budget.
Speaking, Head of the association, Malam Muktar Yakubu, appealed to the state government to assist them with a bus for easy mobilisation and discharge of their duties.
Meanwhile, the first batch of three hundred and ten youth entrepreneurs have benefited from loans under the CBN-NYSC-Heritage Bank Youth Entrepreneurship Development Programme, YEDP.
The funds were disbursed to the beneficiaries, comprising serving and ex-corps members, at a ceremony held at the CBN Headquarters, Abuja.

Oshiomhole, APC Plan To Replace NYSC Members With Loyalists – PDP

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has again alerted the international community, accredited election monitors and the general public about secret plot by Governor Adams Oshiomhole and its party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) to substitute members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) trained for Edo governorship election with their party members.
A press statement signed by the state’s publicity secretary of the PDP, Chris Nehikare,  reiterated that the postponement of the Edo State governorship election earlier scheduled for Saturday, September 10, is in line with the governor’s and APC’s devious plan and had nothing to do with insecurity in the state.
According to the PDP,  “the postponement was well-planned to undermine the will of Edo people. We are now convinced that the phantom security advice by the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Security (DSS) was orchestrated by Governor Adams Oshiomhole and some cabal within the APC, in the face of imminent defeat in the election.
‘’For instance, we all know that many members of the NYSC were trained by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as ad-hoc staff for the election. And going by NYSC Action Plan September, 2016, the trained NYSC members are to finish their clearance, as part of their final disengagement process that will end on September 30.
“’And we have just been told by insiders within the APC that Governor Oshiomhole and his party had compiled list of their party’s members that they will secretly use to replace the out-going trained NYSC members.’’
The party added that one of the reasons APC also asked INEC to fix the rescheduled election for Wednesday, September 28, an official working day, is to deny many electorates outside the state, who planned to come to Edo State for the election, from doing so.
It said hundreds of the electorates outside the state had arrived Edo State before the election was postponed, with many of them feeling disappointed about the action of the APC, in connivance with INEC/security agencies.
The PDP added, ‘’We want to once again, put the international community, accredited election monitors and the general public on notice over the devious plan by APC. It will surely undermine our democracy and instigate crisis that might be very difficult to manage if Oshiomhole and his gang are allowed to have their way.

Male corper knocks out teeth of female corper who refused to date him

A National Youth corp member named Temitope Adedewe was battered and her two teeth removed with a hammer by a male corps member, Oluwabusiyi Adeola Bolarinde.
Also, Temitope Adedewe’s NYSC discharge certificate, which was withheld for purportedly breaching the NYSC code of conduct and reporting the matter to the police in Arochukwu, Abia State, where the incident happened, is yet to be issued to her.

This is despite a strong allegation that her assailant, Bolarinde, is already studying for his master’s  degree at the University of Ibadan, which could not have been possible if he didn’t produce his NYSC discharge certificate.
Adewewe’s nightmare began when in June of 2015; Bolarinde started making advances at her. She had known him from their undergraduate days at the History Department of OAU, Ile-Ife, but said she always stayed away from him “because he was the aggressive type.”
“The first time I spoke to him was when we were in camp.” Adewewe said. Both however got posted to the same LGA and place of primary assignment, giving Bolarinde the opportunity to start pressing her for a relationship, because they were also staying in the same lodge.
With every attempt to woo her failing, he suddenly decided to make her life miserable and he resorted to insulting her at any given opportunity, with Adewewe returning the insults at times, and ignoring at other times.
Matters later got to a head one day, after Adewewe told him to stop threatening him via Whatsapp, and Bolarinde allegedly went into her room and started beating her with his belt. He later picked up a hammer banged it on her mouth, making her lose some teeth.
All attempts to get Bolarinde’s side of the story proved abortive as he maintained his position, citing the NYSC code of conduct, which he said does not allow corpers to give audience to the press. And till now, NYSC is yet to officially address the issue.
