Pop star Chris Brown was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly
weapon on Tuesday after a daylong standoff and search at his Los
Angeles home that began when a woman called 911 in the predawn hours,
police said.
Brown,
27, denied any wrongdoing in posts on Instagram before he was taken
into custody and said he had woken up to find police outside the
property in the Tarzana neighborhood in Los Angeles' San Fernando
Valley.
"He
is being transported to robbery homicide, where he will be arrested for
assault with a deadly weapon, Lieutenant Chris Ramirez of the Los
Angeles Police Department told reporters at an impromptu media
conference outside Brown's home.
Ramirez
declined to elaborate on the charges against Brown, saying an
investigation was still under way. Earlier TMZ.com and the Los Angeles
Times reported that the singer had pointed a gun at the woman, who later
left the property.
Police
who responded to the 911 emergency call at around 3 a.m. spent hours
surrounding the home before obtaining a search warrant and beginning a
search of the sprawling premises in the early afternoon.
During
that search, TMZ posted a photo of Brown standing on the front porch
with a police officer and his attorney, Mark Geragos. Geragos could not
be reached by Reuters for comment.
"I
don't sleep half the damn night I just wake up to all these ...
helicopters, choppers is around, police out there at the gate," Brown
said in a video he posted on Instagram as police were stationed outside
his house.
"What
I do care about is you are defacing my name and my character and
integrity," he added, saying he had done nothing wrong and criticizing
police actions.
"I
don't care y'all going to stay playing with me like I'm the villain out
here, like I'm going crazy ... good luck when you get the warrant or
whatever you need to do. You're going to walk right up in here and
you're going to see nothing you idiots," he added.
In
2009, Brown assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna, and in 2015 finished
a lengthy term of probation, community service and domestic violence
classes.

ordered that successful candidates into the ongoing recruitment must go
through polygraph test ( lie detector).
He said apart from general background check, biometrics, medical,
physical examination, aptitude, oral and psychological tests, the lie
detector test was compulsory.
Mr. Idris gave this directive while reviewing the exercise so far and
expressed satisfaction with the progress made in recruiting 10,000
personnel into the Nigeria Police Force. The IGP said no candidate will
be admitted for training at the Police Academy and Colleges without
undergoing the prescribed tests.
A statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Don
Awunah said the polygraph test is aimed at ensuring that candidates are
not of questionable character and their behaviours conform with standard
rules of behaviour expected of an officer to be recruited into the
force.
The Police Academy and other training colleges across the country will
be equipped to carry out the necessary tests. The force is determined to
ensure that the current recruitment conforms to acceptable standards
necessary for an ideal officer the Nigerian people deserve.”
A notorious suspected fake prophecy syndicate that specialized in
working with some owners of religious ministry to confirm a certain
prophecy in order to win more members for ministries and churches were
on 19th August and 20th August 2016 nabbed at Holy Ghost park axis and
popular P&T axis of the state by the operatives of the central
police station of the Enugu state police command of the Nigeria police
Force.
According to statement issued today August 21, by the Command, the
suspects identified as Obi Ejike from Ubaho Okija in Ihiala local
Government Area of Anambra state, Kuku Mary from Ijebuode Ogun state,
Oluwakemi Joy from Ojo Lagos State, Nwosu Chizoba from Umunze in Anambra
state and Peter Uchechi from Ebonyi state were nabbed on their way to a
church/Ministry in Abakiliki and in Enugu to join in the fake prophecy
deal.
It was further gathered that luck ran out of the syndicate as
confusion broke out at a bus stop between them leading to some arguments
and consequently attracted the attention of security operatives very
close to the arena who suspected the scenario and intervened and on
instant inquiry, the duo of Obi Ejike and Oluwakemi Joy were speaking at
variance but further interrogation conducted immediately revealed that
they are in for nefarious activities and eventually the other group
billed for Abakiliki church/ministry prophecy were trailed and nabbed
at P&T bus stop while waiting for bus to Abakiliki.
One of the suspects Peter Uchechi(F) maintained that they were
recruited in large numbers and kept in house at Onitsha, Anambra state
from there they shuttle to various states of the country to confirm a
prophecy for the purpose of winning more souls for the said church or
ministry and that they are usually paid through their coordinator who
hired the house and kept them there.
According to her, they can be detailed to go to any state but the
number of the link man in the said church/ministry is usually provided
to them for easy connectivity on arrival and that they usually dialogue
with the link man to the pastor of the church/ministry on the shape
the job will take. She went ahead to reveal that they usually state
their names, nature of problem they have and other necessary information
which is given to the pastor of the church/ministry for his guidance
and during the prophetic hours, she will be among the people with the
said problem that will come out.
The pastor then using the said information prophecy and she confirms
that before the congregation and she will be touched and she will fall
and the pastor proclaims the problem is all over and that she has
received her healing and that way, members of the congregation will
believe that the pastor is powerful and a man of God and this will
attract more members to the church.
"Some Pastors use us to grow their church/ministry and we
are paid later through our coordinator depending your role." concludes
Uchechi.
On his part, Obi Ejike confirmed their illicit deal and maintained
that he works hand in hand with the coordinator and he is the link of
the people for Abakiliki and Enugu Job. He maintained that he joined
the lucrative Prophecy job after he lost his business to the activities
of fraudsters in lagos and then decided to relocate to Onitsha where
he joined the prophesy deal and recruitment of candidates. He however
was remorseful on the ground that he was not doing a moral thing. Nwosu
chizoba from Umunze equally corroborated all the stories as told by
Uchechi peter and Obi Ejike pointing out that she is a mother of one
which she begat out of wedlock before joining the business which she
initially started at Abuja before moving to Onitsha.
Oluwakemi Joy and Kuku Mary, both mothers of four children each and
separated from their husbands joined the lucrative business through
their friend who linked them to the coordinator.

adding that they had been handed over to the police for investigation
and prosecution.
According to him, some candidates were
screened out for being over-age, falsifying or forging documents, tattoo
marks, and having physical deformities, among other issues.
The PSC chairman denied coming under
pressure to favour some candidates, stressing that the commission
adhered strictly to laid down requirements.
He said, “The commission adhered
strictly to the requirements in terms of qualifications and physical
features. Many applicants who failed to meet these requirements were
dropped.
“The screening exercise will start on
Monday with the aptitude test for Cadet ASPs for both general duty and

for both general duty and specialists. The Constables from both cadres

No
fewer than 30 girls are raped by men old enough to be their fathers in
Katsina State monthly in the recent past, the Commissioner of Police in
Katsina, Abdullahi Usman has disclosed.
Briefing newsmen yesterday
in the state police command headquarters, Usman lamented that most of
the victims were under aged girls, particularly in rural communities.
He
frowned that the police were having tough time arresting the menace due
to the reluctance of parents and relatives of most victims to cooperate
with detectives in their investigations.
The
CP therefore cautioned parents to monitor the movement of their young
girls as the police perfect measures to arrest the trend.
He also
disclosed that the command in synergy with other security agencies
recovered 20 Dane guns, three AK 47 rifles, five pistols, 85 assorted
live ammunition and 49 expended shells among other dangerous weapons
last month from suspected criminals.
On cattle rusting, Usman
revealed that no fewer than 2, 151 animals were recovered from suspected
rustlers in nine local government areas that are most vulnerable to
cattle rustling.
Meanwhile, the CP had inaugurated an eminent
persons’ forum as part of community policing strategy to help in
mitigating security challenges in the state.
The forum comprising
retired civil servants, religious leaders, civil society groups,
traditional and community leaders would among others assist the police
in mediation and social control during security challenges in any part
of the state.
Three
female human trafficking victims namely: Esther Frank, 17; Chinyere
Ude, 19; and Happiness Igwe, 20 have been rescued by operatives of the
police Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Asaba at a hideout on Okpanam
Road, Asaba.
The Delta State Police Commissioner, Mr. Zanna
Ibrahim, told reporters yesterday in Asaba that the victims, who are all
with advanced pregnancies, told the police they were brought to the
hideout by a lady, Uju Okonkwo, a suspected fake nurse working at
Chinonso Hospital, Nkpor in Anambra State, for the purpose of selling
their children after delivery.
Ibrahim said after intensive
surveillance by operatives following a tip-off by a whistleblower, Uju
and a suspected fake lawyer, Mr. Ezurum Joseph, who provided the hideout
where the victims were harboured, were arrested last on August 2.
The police boss said the suspects were helping law enforcement agents in investigation and would soon be arraigned in court. Also, a pastor, who allegedly raped a minor, was arrested by the police in Delta State.
The pastor, who owns a church in Asaba, was apprehended for allegedly defiling an eight- year-old girl in his residence.
The
Police Commissioner explained that on Wednesday July 20, the victim and
other children, including the pastor’s children were playing when the
cleric ordered everyone, including his children to go outside the
compound to play, while he invited the victim into his room and had
carnal knowledge of her.
Ibrahim noted that as a result, the
victim started experiencing severe pain in her private part after a week
and consequently, reported the incident to her parents.
In
another development, a lecturer at the, Delta State University (DELSU),
Abraka, who was accused of sexually harassing his student, has been
arrested by the police.
Ibrahim disclosed that the female student,
had reported that the lecturer, who is also her course adviser, had
threatened that if she refused to yield to his sexual demands, he would
make her carry over some of her courses.
According to the police
commissioner, on Tuesday, July 19, during the Mathematics examination,
she told the randy lecturer that she had accepted her proposal, but
before then, she had reported the matter at the police station in
Abraka.
He explained that based on the complainant’s feigned
acceptance of the suspect’s demand, she was taken to a hotel in Abraka
on Thursday, July 21, where detectives were invited.
He was arrested in the hotel room after he had already undressed.
Generator fumes on Saturday killed a man
identified by his neighbours as a policeman, and his lover, suspected
to be a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in
Anambra State.
The name of the policeman could not be ascertained as of press time, but his lover’s name was given as Ifeoma.
Ifeoma, a mother of five and the
policeman, a father of three, were found dead on Sunday, in an apartment
at Ezinifite Okpuno, Awka-South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
It was gathered that the policeman’s family lived in Lagos, while his lover’s family stayed in Awka.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Ifeoma
told her husband that she was going to attend a church vigil, but ended
up at her lover’s house, which was nearby.
A source said, “The woman spent the
night with her police lover until a labourer, who was to work for the
policeman, came in the morning and discovered their dead bodies.
“The labourer then rushed out and alerted neighbours.
“The neighbours followed him to confirm
the incident, before a relative intervened and locked the gate,
preventing people from further going inside the apartment.”
Some neighbours interviewed by our correspondent said the victims might have been killed by generator fumes.
One of them said, “There was the sound
of a small generator throughout the night in his apartment. But at about
4am, it went dead; maybe the fuel got finished.
“The policeman lived on the third floor
of the house. As a policeman, he hardly stayed around, but each time he
was around, everybody would know, because he would run his generator all
through the night. Everybody called him ‘Officer’, but I think he was
an inspector.”
When our correspondent arrived at the
scene of the incident at about 10am on Sunday, sympathisers gathered in
clusters at the gate of the three-storeyed building, discussing the
incident.
The building, it was gathered, belonged to the younger brother of the deceased policeman.
After a long wait by residents, who
wanted to catch a glimpse of the dead bodies, security men, comprising
local vigilantes, the police and men of the NSCDC, arrived at the scene
and dispersed the crowd.
The security operatives later took away the corpses in an ambulance.
When contacted on the development, the
state Police Public Relations Office, ASP Nkeiru Nwode, said, “With due
respect, the man in question is not a member of the Nigeria Police Force
and the woman’s identity is yet to be ascertained.
“I have not yet been fully briefed on the story. As soon as I get the details, I will communicate with you, please.”
