While many awaits the drop of his fourth album with the title
‘iLLYGati’, as his the single ‘Ayakata’, featuring Falz the Bahd Guy,
which he released earlier in the year, Tobechukwu Melvin Ejiofor, well
known in the music scene as illBliss, has bid goodbye to the game the
brought him fame, fortune and endeared him to many young Nigerians,
particularly the rap freaks.
The rapper, businessman and owner of
the talent-managing outfit, The Goretti Company, called it quit to music
yesterday in a post he put on his Instagram. “Thank you all for being
with me through this amazing musical journey…Goodbye…to the game…I’m
gone…Next Chapter.”
illBliss as a celebrated Hip hop and rap
artiste, started his music career as a member of the now defunct
Hip-Hop group, Da Thorobreds, which consisted of other notable Hip-hop
artistes including Elajoe, Obiwon and B-Elect.
They bagged the
award for the Best Hip-Hop song by a group/duo at the 2006 maiden
edition of Hip Hop World Awards for the massive hit Streethop. As a solo
artiste, illBliss won his first major award at the Sound City Music
Video Awards (SMVA) for Best Hip-hop video, with his street anthem ‘U go
wound o’. American Hip-hop superstar, Nas, presented the award.
He released his debut album in 2009 titled ‘Dat Ibo Boy’, which housed the hit single ‘U go wound o’ and ‘Aiye po gan’ featuring Terry G. He is responsible for launching the careers of acts like Chidinma and Phyno among others.

In 2012 he released his debut album ‘Oga Boss’ which was nominated
for Best Rap Album at the Headies 2013. August 2014, he announced a
release of a third album ‘Powerful’, which had singles like ‘Bank alert’
on it but pushed it back for a mid-year 2015 release to finish
production and tie-distribution for digital and physical sales.
In
collaboration with ace video director, Clarence Peters, they formed a
joint venture called CAPital Hill Music/Goretti Co, a recording/talent
management company respectively.
Born and raised in Enugu state,
popularly known as Coal City or 042; he acquired primary and secondary
education in the same city between and subsequently gained admission to
study Political Science/International Relations in the University Of
Nigeria.
Illbliss represents three aspects — consciousness,
lyricism and creativity.His diverse approach to hip-hop ranges from
social issues to love/relationships, peer pressure and topics the
average head can relate to, while retaining elements of hip-hop and
ethnic content, a virtue which sets him apart from the crowd.
