My wife brings her lovers home for sex, man tells court
A businessman, Kingsley Agina, has approached an Igando Customary Court in Lagos, to end his 10-year-old marriage to his wife, Obianju, accusing her of bringing men to their matrimonial home for sex. Agina, 49, told the court on Monday that his wife, with whom he had four children also, poisons his food. “My wife is promiscuous; she used to bring men into my house to sleep with them, whenever I travelled abroad for business. “There was a day I came back from my business trip, I discovered that my glass center table was broken. “I asked my daughter who broke it, she told me that it was one uncle her mother brought home that broke it. “There was also a day I discovered that my bed was shaking, I called a carpenter to come and repair it. “ But when we lifted the bed up, we saw several used tissue paper under the bed,’’ he said. The petitioner alleged that his wife used to withdraw money with his ATM card and give her boyfriends. He also accused his wife of poisoning his food. “Since year 2008, I have noticed that my food was being laced with poison, which has resulted to my deteriorating health; I could not sleep nor walk. “I have spent about N5 million on medical treatment, but I never get well in fact my health is getting worst. “My mother-in-law is a native doctor, she has a shrine; she has been the one giving her daughter poison to kill me so that they can inherit my property. “Since I became sick, my wife’s parent never called or came to my house to ask how I was feeling,’’ he said. Kinsley begged the court to dissolve the marriage on the ground of lack of love. Obianju, 35, a businesswoman, however, denied all the allegations. She said that it was her husband that was promiscuous. “My husband brings home different girls of different sizes and colours. “I once saw condom in his bag, so I went to buy him a packet of condom and gave him. “ He queried me on my action and I told him that he needs it, so that he will not contact any disease to infect me. “I have been faithful to our marital vow; I have never had sex with any other man. My husband married me a virgin at the age of 25,’’ she said. The mother of four said that she never poisoned her husband. “How will I poison the father of my children, what do I stand to gain, my hands are clean, I don’t know how poison got into his body,’’ she said. Obinaju said that the N100, 000 she withdrew with her husband’s ATM card was for the upkeep of the house. She made a fervent plea to the court not to dissolve the marriage. The respondent said that she still loves her husband. The court president, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, after listening to the couple adjourned the case to Dec. 6 for judgment.

Couple bags 14 years jail term for human trafficking
Justice Joyce Abdulmaleek of the Federal
High Court, Ibadan, on Tuesday sentenced a couple to 14 years
imprisonment without an option of fine, for human trafficking.
Abdulmaleek convicted Idowu Folorunso, 37, and his wife, Titilayo, and sentenced them to seven years imprisonment each.
She said that the prosecution provided overwhelming oral, documentary and other substantial evidence against the couple.
He said, “Therefore, Idowu and Titilayo
are sentenced to seven years imprisonment each for count one, and seven
years imprisonment for count two, without any option of fine and with
hard labour.
“The sentences are, however, to run concurrently.”
The judge held that Idowu and Titilayo
lied to one Miss Bidemi Adeshina that there were teaching opportunities
for girls in Libya and that she should utilise them since she had
National Certificate of Education.
The couple wept as they prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.
Idowu and Titilayo were arraigned on a
two-count of unlawful procurement of person and organising foreign trip
for the purpose of prostitution.
The Folorunsos committed the crime on
May 20, 2014, at Odo-Oba Elere, Ibadan, according to the National Agency
for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other Related
Matters.
In her evidence earlier, Adeshina said
that Idowu and Titilayo lured her into prostitution in Libya where she
became infected with HIV/AIDS.
Adeshina testified that the couple told her that three other girls would be joining her for the teaching job in Libya.
She said that she travelled from Ibadan through Kano, to Niger to Libya and found herself in a “prostitution joint”.
The witness said that within eight months, the Folorunsos made her to abort four pregnancies.
She added that she contracted HIV/AIDS.
She also said that the couple did not give her anything from the proceeds of her prostitution.
The offences contravened Sections 15 (a) (b) of the NAPTIP Act, 2004.
The offences are equally punishable under the section.

My husband is under his mother’s tutelage, wife tells court
A housewife, Iyabo Olatunji , has told an Akure Customary Court that her husband, Ezekiel, is still under his mother’s tutelage.
Iyabo also said her husband is an alcoholic and batters her at will without any caution from his mother.
Iyabo, made this known while testifying in her divorce proceedings on Friday.
She said, “My husband was working by his mother’s directive.
“It is my mother-in-law that gives us food and my husband will not do anything except waiting for his mother’s money.
“The worst part is that my mother-in-law will not tell her son to stop beating me.”
She begged the court to dissolve her five-year-old marriage to Ezekiel for alleged intake of excessive alcohol.
The complainant said that she could no longer tolerate the constant beating she got whenever her spouse was drunk.
According to her, the alcoholic intake has rendered the respondent irrational in the way he treats her.
She appealed to the court to award custody of the only child of the marriage to her.
Ruling on the case, the President of the court, Mr Rotimi Olusanya,
said the repeated refusal of the respondent’s appearance in court would
not stop the proceedings.
Olusanya adjourned the case till Sept. 27 for judgment.

‘I prepared fake charm to test my wife’s fidelity’ - Man Tells Court
A father of three, Olanrewaju Aluko, on Thursday said he prepared a
fake charm for his wife, Tolu, to swear with that she was not flirting
around.
Aluko made the disclosure when he testified in a divorce petition instituted by his wife in an Ikole Customary Court in Ekiti
“I am not fetish and occultic. I only asked Tolu to swear with a fake
fetish substance which I prepared to confirm her innocence when I
suspected her to be flirting around,” he said.
He urged the court to grant him custody of their third child, saying the child, a girl, was the only that needed care.
Tolu had asked the court to dissolve the 16-year-old marriage because
Aluko was irresponsible and did not care for the three kids since they
were born.
She further accused the husband of being occultic and was always threatening her with charms and other fetish substances.
“I left his house with my kids in 2012 when I could no more cope with
his care-free attitude toward me and the children but he kept on
threatening to kill me with charm.“
“I pleaded with this court to separate us but allow the three
children aged 15, 13 and eight to remain in my custody so that I would
continue caring and monitor the children.
“The court should also order him never to threaten nor disturb me,
but should pay N20,000 as monthly allowance for the upkeep of the
children,’’ she said.
The President of the court, Mrs. Yemisi Ojo, dissolved the marriage.
Ojo awarded custody of the children to Tolu and ordered the defendant to pay N10,000 monthly upkeep allowance to the petitioner.

Court Martial demotes Maj.-Gen. Patrick Falola
A Special Court Martial has demoted Maj.-Gen. Patrick Falola, to
Brigadier-General for admitting students for clinical training without
permission from higher authorities.
Falola, Director, 68 Military Reference Hospital, Yaba, Lagos State,
was arraigned on a two-count charge before a court martial presided over
by AVM James Gbum.
Faloola admitted international students from Espan Formation
University, Cotonou, in Benin Republic between July and September, 2016.
Gbum, the President of the court martial, held that Falola’s conduct amount to fraudulent use of property of the armed forces.
He discharged and acquitted him on charges of conduct to prejudice
the service but convicted him on fraudulent misapplication of the
hospital’s property.
“This court is compelled to award a higher punishment under sections
103 and 66 of the Armed Forces Act Cap A 20 laws of the Federation 2004.
“The court has taken into consideration the service record of the
convicted senior officer, the touching plea in mitigation by the defence
council as well as the demeanor of the convicted officer
“But we have also taken into consideration the senior officer’s
seniority, rank, experience and the regimental tradition of the armed
forces.
“This court has discharged and acquitted the convicted officer on the
first charge, on the second offence, the sentence is reduction in rank
to Brigadier General.”
Gbum said that the filing and sentences were subject to confirmation
by the Nigerian Army Council which was the confirming authority.
He, however, said that the convicted officer would maintain his rank until the council concludes the confirmation process.
The prosecuting counsel, Lt.-Col. Ukpe Ukpe, told newsmen that the
convicted was arraigned for using the Nigeria army property to train
students from neighboring Benin Republic without following the necessary
procedure.
Ukpe said the judgment was a balanced one as the court was very liberal in metting out punishment.
“If you check Section 115 of the Alarmed Forces Act, the offence
falls under Section 68, punishment that could be metted out included
dismissal, imprisonment or even death but the court went down to
reduction in rank which is balanced enough.”
The defence council, retired Wing Cdr. Enokela Onyilo-Uloko, said the
conviction had no legal backing and was an attempt to tarnish the clean
record of his client.
Onyilo-Uloko said this was because there was no law stating that
senior officers must take permission from the higher authority before
allowing such training.
He said his cleint only did what his predecessors also did, which was no crime, adding that his client would appeal.
“No such law was tendered in evidence but they are saying he should
use his initiative when there is no law finalising an act it does not
amounted to criminal offence that my cleint is being tried for.
“So, the conviction is based on nothing and cannot stand the light of day in the eye of the law.
“And when we go higher to the Court of Appeal, I assure you, this conviction will be thrown out,” he opined.

Man Told Court he was Involved in Rape Because his Wife Starved him of Sex
A middle-aged father, Ojo Adewole, on
Wednesday told an Ikole Customary Court in Ekiti that he was involved in
rape because his wife starved him of sex.
Adewole, who made this known when he
testified in a divorce petition by his wife, Omotayo,35, admitted being
involved in a rape case but blamed it on the wife.
He said, “Your honour, my wife had
always starved me of sex. Instead of taking care of me and the house,
she went about partying and making friends.
“My wife is simply wayward and the family had always supported her deeds.
“Your honour, I may not have the moral
justification to ask for the preservation of the marriage, but I am
praying the court to reduce my monthly financial obligation to my
children to N5,000.”
“My prayer for the slashing of the
upkeep money hinges on the fact that I have just been released from
detention and I do not have any tangible source of livelihood at the
moment.’’
Omotayo had told the court that Adewole
had been “sexually unruly’’, adding that he had gambled out their
collective property and money.
She said, “Your honour, my husband is so
addicted to gambling to the extent of using my three cell phones,
cooking stove and other house utensils to gamble.
“His habitual drunkenness made him to beat me so often.
“He is not also responsible for the
upkeep of our five children as he evades paying their school fees. Your
honour, I am tired of the marriage and I want it dissolved forthwith.”
She further said, “The father of my
children does not have respect for her family members even though all of
us stood by him when he was involved in a rape case.’’
The mother of five had sought for the
custody of all the children and prayed the court to compel the
respondent to assign some amount monthly for their upkeep.
In her Judgment, the President of the
court, Mrs Yemisi Ojo, dissolve the 15-years-old marriage between
Omotayo and Adewole for promiscuity and gambling lifestyle.
Ojo held that the petitioner’s request
had merit and “in the light of the evidence before the court it is clear
that the respondent’s lifestyle had put off the feelings the petitioner
initially had for him.
“It is appropriate in the circumstance for parties to be allowed to go their separate ways.
“I, therefore, order that the custody of the children from the union would remain with the petitioner,’’ the president held.
Ojo said: “the respondent is ordered to
give his ex-wife the sum of N10, 000 monthly for the upkeep of the
children on monthly basis.’’

My wife is an ‘unrepentant adulterer’, man tells court
Adeshina, a 40-year-old, who resides at
Ipinyewi, off Aroro Adamo Road in Ikorodu, told the court that his wife,
Oluwatoyin, was an “unrepentant adulterer’’.
Worried by his wife’s adulterous acts,
Mr Azeez Adeshina, on Wednesday approached the Ikorodu Customary Court
in Lagos State to annul his 22-year-old marriage.
He asked the court to dissolve the union since the woman was no longer staying with him since 2007.
He said, “I caught her red-handed committing adultery.
“She incited some people to beat me
almost to the point of death and the people confirmed this to me after
carrying out her orders.
“I cannot imagine being associated with a person that is not under my roof and still bears my name.
“My estranged wife does not care about
her image as a wife; she takes pleasure in living outside my home so
that she can continue with her adulterous acts.
“I need to move on in life and regain my sanity and that is why I want to divorce her,’’ he told the court.”
The petitioner, a bricklayer, also said
he wanted to be separated from Oluwatoyin because she had been
endangering the lives of their four children.
Adeshina added: “I have always told her
that I do not want her to cross highways with my children where there is
a pedestrian bridge but she refused.
“I do not love her again and I do not want her to bear my name any longer.’’
Meanwhile, the respondent, Oluwatoyin who is also 40 years old, accused the petitioner of failing to pay her dowry.
`She said, “Azeez is not a caring person and he finds it difficult to care for me and the children.
“He abandoned me after an accident I had and asked my father to care of me instead.
“Any claim of his that I kidnapped two of our children and harassed him is false.”
She said she moved out of his house because the husband was making life unbearable for her.
In his ruling, the court’s President,
Mrs Abiola Omolara, ordered the couple to maintain peace pending when
the case would be disposed off.
She said, “I want the two of you to
continue to ensure that the children remain in school because you should
not allow your misunderstanding to affect their education.
“I will further urge the two of you to discuss the way forward to resolve this crisis and let the court know your resolutions.”
The case has been adjourned to Sept. 18 for continuation of trial.

“Both parties are no longer husband and wife, they are free to marry

fetish object I recovered from a church member after a deliverance

“She moved out of the house five years ago to an unknown destination,
claiming that I married her with charms. “I called her family to inform
them of her action and they promised to talk to her and plead with her
to come back, but up till now she has refused to come back, “he said.
Abiola accused his wife, who had failed to appear in court after
several summonses of attempting to kidnap their children on two
occasions. He added:“First, she came to the house without my knowledge
and absconded with our three children.
“I received a tipoff from a neighbor and I rushed down. I saw them at a bus stop and rescued my children.
“After that attempt failed, she went to their school with a bus and a policeman to `kidnap’ the children but the school authority prevented her and called me.’’

The pastor said in January 2010, his daughter gave him a paper she
saw on the floor while sweeping which revealed that his wife would
remarry in April 2010. “Before my wife packed out, I saw the paper in
which she wrote that she will remarry by April, she also wrote in that
paper the name of the man she will be getting married to.
“I confronted her but she did not deny it. True to her words by April that same year, she moved out of the house.”
The petitioner tendered the paper as evidence in the court. The father of three said that a week after his wife packed out of the house, she returned to destroy his property.

Wednesday remanded a 37-year-old father in prison custody for putting
pepper on his 10-year-old daughter’s private part.
Okoro Odia is standing trial on a three-count of indecent treatment, attempt to commit murder and assault.
Prosecutor Ihiehie Lucky told the court that the accused committed the alleged offences sometime in June and August.

Ihiehie told the court that the accused
tied the daughter to the ceiling because she failed to submit his lotto

He told the court that the indecent assault on the girl was reported by the step-mother to the Ketu Police Station.
Maria, the prosecutor, told the police that on Aug. 8 at about 8:00 p.m. Okoro called his daughter to bring her report sheet.
“When he saw that she failed, he
indecently punished her. He told her to lie down and he put the dry

“Her screams alerted the step-mother who tried to stop him but he beat her up,’’ Ihiehie said.
Ihiehie said the offences contravened sections 135, 228(1) and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, denied the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs Temitope Oladele, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

evidence of gainful employment in a reputable organisation.
She also said that the sureties must
show evidence of tax payment and their addresses verified by the court,
and adjourned the case till Oct. 13 for mention.

There is no herbalist my wife does not know, man tells court
A 52-year-old businessman, Lateef Oteshile, approached an Igando
Customary Court on Wednesday in Lagos to dissolve his 24-year-old
marriage over his wife’s alleged fetish acts.
Lateef told the court that his wife, Ayoka, with whom he had four children, had been visiting different herbalists.
“There is no herbalist my wife does not know; she travels regularly and comes back with different charms.
“I used to see salt, red oil, blood and other substances sprinkled in my compound.
“I fear for my life because I don’t know what she wanted to achieve with her charms,’’ he said.
The petitioner also alleged that his wife invited armed robbers to rob his junior wife.
“Ayoka invited robbers to attack my junior wife when she just
returned with goods from Dubai; about N15million worth of jewellery and
other goods were stolen.
“One of the jewellery that was stolen was later found on Ayoka’s neck few months after the robbery,” he said.
Lateef said that his wife was even threatening his life.
“Ayoka hired assassins to kill me, but they failed; when she was
confronted she said she only wanted them to beat me in order to teach me
a lesson,” he said.
Lateef begged the court to dissolve the 24-year-old marriage because his life was at risk and that he was no longer in love.
However, Ayoka, 47, a food vendor, denied the allegations.
She said that the actions of her husband’s wife attracted the armed robbers to their house.
“I don’t know anything about the robbery, my husband’s second wife is fond of talking loud on the phone about large sums of money. This must have attracted the robbers,” Ayoka said.

The mother of four said she did not know anything about the alleged assassination plot as her hands were clean.
“My husband is a contractor involved in all sorts of deals; there was never a time that I confessed to anything.
“They (robbers) entered my room first, I tried to call my husband to
inform him, but he did not pick my calls, because since 10 years he
married another wife, we have not been on talking terms,” she said.
The respondent said that she was not fetish and was a dedicated Muslim.
“I am a practicing Muslim, I don’t know any herbalist as he claims.

“Besides, I am not the only one living in the house, my husband’s
second wife is also staying in the compound, why is he accusing only
me,” Ayoka said.
She said that she and her husband had a peaceful home until 10 years ago when he married another wife.
Ayoka begged the court not to grant her husband’s wish as she was still in love.
